Video on thinkpad LCD and external monitor

#1 Post by sugo » Sun Aug 22, 2004 9:16 am

Using the latest IBM driver (dated 2004/7/6) with mobility radeon 9600 chip, I hit Fn F5 twice to synchronize the LCD and external monitor at 1024x768.

When I play a video in windows media player (also tried windvd), only the thinkpad LCD shows the movie. The external monitor has the player without video playing.

Has anyone tried playing simultaneous video on the T42?

The video overlay only works on the primary monitor. If you go into the display tab of your advanced video settings you can set the second monitor as your main monitor with one of the buttons on the screen and then it will work just fine. Been there, done that.

It is possible to play the video on both the lcd and the monitor. Feamster is correct that overlays will only display on your primary. (Atleast in my experience)

The trick is to use RGB mode instead of an overlay. I use BSPlayer (free). Just choose "Force RGB mode" in preferences under video rendering. I haven't seen that option on any other video players.

Using BSPlayer in RGB mode, it works great. Thanks a lot.
