Which thinkpad utilities work and which don't on RC1?

#1 Post by politby » Tue Sep 19, 2006 10:24 am

I'd like to see a list of which Thinkpad utilities (such as fingerprint software, OSD, hotkeys, etc.) have been tried and tested and found to work well on Windows Vista RC1.

I find I can live without most of them, but I'd really like to have the fingerprint reader usable, for instance.

Don't quite remember all of them, but here's what I think:

APS: Works, but no control panel
OSD: Works mostly
Hotkey manager: OK
Key remapper: Nope, use Sharpkeys instead
AC: Nope
Fn-F5: Nope, only turns BT on/off, no menu appears
Fn-F3, F7, F12: Nope
Bluetooth: Nope, use MS default drivers
Power Manager/Battery Maximizer: Nope
Video drivers: Use MS default drivers
Ultranav: Use MS default drivers
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

The following link was just posted by remaker in the Windows OS forum.

Here are the Vista drivers Lenovo has to date: Microsoft Windows Vista beta drivers

The UltraNav driver now works. I can scroll vertically and horizontally in IE 7.

Hi,
well I installed the drivers and now I have no longer any unknown device listed. While the Vista installation automatically installed the biometric coprocessor, I have not been able to figer out how to activate the fingerprint reader for logon. The information given in the Vista Help points to a entry in Systemcontrol -> input devices which I do not have.
Any hints?
Thanks, Carlhermann

It works fine with my Intel 2200BG adapter - after the update was downloaded from Windows Update. Maybe the 2100 is just too old.

IIRC, the T42 is listed in the readme file for the Conexant (AC97) modem. The UltraNav driver works on the T42, although I don't remember if the T42 was listed in the readme file or not. Currently I can't seem to access the FTP server where these files are located to see for sure.

I also took a chance and downloaded the Vista RC1, ATI Catalyst drivers from ATI's site, although the Radeon 9000 wasn't listed. The drivers installed OK, but I don't see any features beyond what Vista already had. I was hoping to get TV Out, but no dice; no generic television driver installed. BTW, I still don't have RC1 - I am using an earlier public beta build.
