SP2 = Better IBM Access Connections?
SP2 = Better IBM Access Connections?
When I first got my T42, I had problems with Access Connections freezing and making all networking aspects of my system nonresponsive for minutes at a time. It was a big pain and I figured it was conflicting with Windows' own Wireless Zero Configuration. I followed the advice of some smart beans here and disabled the Windows service, and Access Connections alone was finally able to do its job.
When I upgraded to SP2, I also happened to start moving about between more wireless networks. I experienced bootup delays of exactly 2 minutes (where the computer would boot but the wireless would be dead until 2 minutes later) when I had a wireless profile in Access Connections that didn't match the network I was physically on (or if I wasn't on a wireless network but I was when I last turned off the system). I did some researching, and apparently a "60 or 120 second delay" was one of the things SP2 specifically *fixed* regarding wireless networking. After a little tinkering, I re-enabled the Wireless Zero Config service, and all the delays disappeared. Access Connections and WZC are now playing nicely in regular use as well, no longer locking my system and network settings up (I assume this was the 2-minute delay issue as well).
Just wanted to pass this along to anyone who may have had the same problems. I'm crossing my fingers now that my wireless networking appears to be sailing along smoothly!

If pre-SP2 Wireless Zero Config wasn't bugging out on me, I would be doing the same. Access Connections is so far stable for me, if it ever starts flaking out, I'm gonna trash it and go with Windows tooSkywing wrote:i dont even use access connections, the new wireless support in sp2 is more that sufficent
Thanks for the update Sarbin! My setup works perfectly right now, and considering the hours of horror and despair I've invested to get it this way, I'm definitely thinking "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!"sarbin wrote:fyi... there's an xpsp2 update for access connections out. i just posted a note in the windows forum with the url.
i don't use access connections, but it might of use to you...
