Hi guys.
My wife is flying tomorrow to Beijing for work, she has been given T42to serve as her working machine.
Now we're trying to get connected to the internet from the home and getting lost, mind you I 'm quite a noob in the networking, though maintain my homw wireless (through router).
My home network works fine (desktop PC & my T43 through WiFi) have LAN ADSL model hooked up to Trandnet router. The Desktop get connected to the router by LAN, the thinkpad (mine T43) - through WiFi. My WiFi router settings are secure (coded)
No I'm trying to establish the connection for wife's T42. I hook up LAN cable from the router (have another 3 free ports) to her machine and T42 recognizes LAN 100 Mbps connection. However when I try to open IE and get to intenet - neitehr site can be found, apparently no internet connection is established in spite of LAN looks fine.
Any help ? What to check ?
Also, the T42 doesn't have Access Connections installed and doesn't recognize me wireless point (albeit does pick neighbour's WiFi points and my T43 works fine on my WiFi home network).
How to manage her T42 wireless without AC ?
This is urgent, she flies tomorrow, till then we must have these issues be cleared...
Thanks in advance, Alex

I know there are others here that are more network savvy than I. But I would recommend to start by turning off all firewall security in the router and on the laptop, then see if you can make a connection.
Another thing you can try is to repair the Winsock.
Here are a couple of links:
How to recover from Winsock2 Corruption
Troubleshoot TCP/IP Connectivity
Here is one that just came in an e-mail from Microsoft this morning:
Using the Network Diagnostics Tool

Thanks, I managed the wired network (through LAN) myself, thansk anyway. Now get Inet fine (was IE problem, Firefox works just fine).
Now have to figure wireless problem...
I would expect the laptop to figure WiFi spot before even getting trying to get connected (at which stage I should have to provide access codes to mach my router settings)...the weird thing is that it doesn't even find my router's wireless spot....

If you are not using Access Connections, do you have the Wireless Zero Configuration service set to Automatic and Started?
Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, and scroll down to near the bottom of the list to find Wireless Zero Configuration. Double-click on it and set to Automatic, and start the service.
In Network Connections, check the properties on your wireless adapter (right-click on adapter and choose Properties). Do you have all the services and protocols installed? Use your T43 as an example to verify.
EDIT: Your wireless radio is turned on right? Look for blinking green LED at bottom of display lid.
