how to remove the Bluetooth desktop icon?

#1 Post by thinkweird » Sun Sep 24, 2006 5:01 pm

I feel that Bluetooth is quite irriating and but can't find a way to remove it from the desktop. How to remove it?

By the way, is bluetooth useful? I never used it and will presume it is redundant.

There is a blue blastic tag which convers something under the left hand resting plate. Is it bluetooth?

...Huh? You do know what Bluetooth is, right? It isn't redundant as nothing else on that Thinkpad can do what it is doing. You need it to communicate with any Bluetooth devices (cell phones, PDAs, other laptops, some desktops, etc). :)

To remove the Bluetooth Icon from the desktop, get Tweak UI and then unselect the icons you do not want shown on the desktop, Bluetooth Places will be one of them.

Also, the Bluetooth CDC card is located right above the modem in the top left hand corner of the main chassis of the T43. It isn't under the palmrest.

Now I know. Never used bluetooth before.

Then what is the device that is covered by a blue plastic tag and located on the slope below left palm rest?

I don't quite understand what you are referring to, perhaps a link to a picture or more localised description would help?

Or do you mean the PC Card eject buttons?

My "guess" is the Infrared sensor.

If it is the Infrared Port, as Gom mentions, then....well, it is the Infrared Port.

That is not Bluetooth. Bluetooth can be turned on/off by pressing the Fn+F5 combo and turning off the power to the bluetooth adapter card. :)

Risky business. Better to simply hide the icon with TweakUI (which offers a slew of other benefits). The icon can be restored in case the user wants it back.

(Not meant IRT you, NimnuL....) I'm always amazed at "gurus" who post at places like annoyances.org to just slash and delete through the registry to "fix" minor annoyances. I noted that Dr. Colossus didn't even mentiosn backing up the registry first. Sheesh.

Bluetooth is about the niftiest thing since random access memory, SMTP, spreadable cheese and standardized brassiere fasteners. It allows you to connect external peripherals (mice, keyboards, pen tablets, headsets, printers) as well as transmit/share files with phones and pdas, all without cables, cradles, infrared. I have a BT keyboard for my phone (makes MMS and e-mail easy), my phone syncs up with my laptop daily via BT, and I can use a Wacom tablet with my T43 anywhere without a cable. That blue icon was a "must have" when I bought this TP. ;)
