T41: screen blackouts when on battery

#1 Post by duncan36 » Mon Sep 25, 2006 12:59 pm

Hi,

since a year I'am a happy user of a second hand T41. I'am more than pleased with it's speed and reliability but one thing keeps bugging me and I have not been able to resolve this.

When I run the laptop on battery power the screen blacks out and the brightness is adjusted (lowered), the computer keeps working OK but this behaviour is rather inconvenient when I'am just showing something to a collegue.

I suspect it has to do with one of the power saving settings but I have not been able to find out which setting influences this behaviour.

Thanks in advance for any replies,
Regards,
Duncan.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums :)

There is a power saving setting in the BIOS that will take down the screen brightness when you go off AC line power and onto DC battery power only. It can be disabled so that doesn't happen; it generally occurs no matter what the current brightness level of the screen is, if it is enabled.

However, your LCD shouldn't black out or turn off fully when you switch power sources. Does it just "shut off" then turn back on at a dimmer setting when you go off AC line power?

HTH :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
