Thnkpad t30 lcd image, but no backlight.

My thinkpad backlight suddenly went out. I have replaced the inverter and backlight and still no illumination on the lcd. I can see the image faintly and the crt connection is fine. I am totally lost at point.

i used to have a Toshiba notebook that had the exact same problem.


think your LCD backlight generator has burnt out.

you probably have to bring it back to IBM for repairs (spare parts).

don't know if they can just replace the LCD backlight generator-- they may have to replace the whole LCD unit, which may be expensive.

time to get a new computer?

Check the switch on the top of the lower unit that senses when the display is closed, sounds like it might be stuck.
