23733VU seems to have the blue tooth atenna!?!

#1 Post by boardmonger » Mon Aug 23, 2004 12:02 pm

I just wanted to let other buyers or current users of the 2373-3VU that mine does seem to have the white bluetooth antenna coming off the CDC even though the Tabbook says it doesn't.

Here is a link to another user finding the BT antenna in their 23733VU: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... c&start=15

I am not trying to say all the 3VUs have blue tooth just yet and I don't know if this will help anyone one, but it would have helped me to know this before I bought it. :)

I'd posted a note earlier too that the IBM
Hardware Maintenance Manual
seems to indicate that the 3VU has BT.

Take a look at pg 201 (207 in Adobe): 2373-3Vx, 2374-3Vx BT, SC

Well, I'll be glad to know I have the upgrade option but I'm currently too risk averse (read lazy) to open mine up :D

The TABook never mentions whether the 3VU has a Bluetooth antenna or not. It just says that it isn't equipped with the Bluetooth/modem combo card.

For information on whether a Thinkpad has a Bluetooth antenna or not, you have to refer to the HMM. The HMM is kind of cryptic but it does contain fairly accurate information.

Many Thinkpads come with the Bluetooth antenna without Bluetooth in order for them to be upgradable in the future.

All I can say is that there has been a list floating around on the forum and I didn't see the 3VU on it, so I was lead to belive that this unit didn't have the antenna on it.

I never looked at that part of the Hardware Maintence Manual. I was always looking at the location in the manual G-Man pointed out, its great to see some documentation to follow up with the claims people made!

Use both the list, and the HMM (page 196 in Adobe). HMM is more accurate though. If one's 3VU has a BT antenna then others' should also have it.

You can add the 2373-7Xx to the list (noticed the 2374 is listed but 2373 isn't) too:

That's why I said to look up the HMM too. Both 23737Xx and 23747Xx are listed (on page 209 in Adobe) as having a BT antenna.

So does anyone know how much the replacement modem/bluetooth card is? (and less importantly, the replacement plastic indicator light panel cover)

Okay, now for a devil's advocate question: does anyone know for certain that the white wire simply isn't the lead to the connector that goes to the display? That is, whether the antenna itself actually exists in the 2373-3VU's display casing?
