Stuttering playback in mediaplayer after BIOS update

#1 Post by tom101 » Fri Sep 29, 2006 4:08 pm

So I broke the golden rule 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' and upgraded the BIOS on my T41 from 3.04 to 3.21. Everything seems to be exactly the same as before apart from when playing video in windows media player 10. There is now some stuttering which coincides with the hard disk activity light. This did not happen before the BIOS update and nothing else has changed so I suspect the BIOS update is the culprate. Anyone got any ideas what might be going on? It's as if some buffering isn't working any more or something.

Specs.
T41 2373-271
512RAM
1.4GHZ CPU

Check in Windows Device Manager that your drives are using DMA mode, and not PIO mode.

Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager. Open IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers; click on Primary IDE channel > Advanced Settings tab and verify mode (DMA or PIO), then click on Secondary IDE channel > Advanced Settings tab and verify mode (DMA or PIO).

I've got to believe it's in PIO mode like GomJabbar indicates. Other than that, I can't think of anything that would cause it. I'm running the latest T43 BIOS with no incident.

Thanks for the info, but it seems it's already set to 'DMA if available'.

I'm getting a faster HD and another 512MB memory in October so I'm hoping that this problem will just disappear then.
