does wireless disconnect because of heat?

#1 Post by thinkweird » Sat Sep 30, 2006 9:15 am

My wireless interface (shown as pci) on my T43P stays around 53 centigrade in temperature when in use.

When I use the laptop at exactly the same location, sometimes the wireless will disconnect and reconnect again.

Is it due to the overheat of wireless interface or it is just the singnal problem?

By the way, it 53 degree centigrade normal?
• 2006 Once the irascible owner of T43P --Returned
• 2007 Overheating HP dv2000t | C2duo 7200 |Nvidia 7200|1.5GB|80 GB|14.1" Brightview|1.3MP webcam
• 2012 X220 All good except for the sticky keys. Keyboard replaced
• Considering a T530 or X230T now

I had a similiar problem in the summer at my home when downloading very large files (> 50 meg). Since I've gotten central air and regulate the temperature in my home I haven't seen this happen. So I believe, in my case, it was heat related. I have an older mini-pci Cisco aironet card.

Where my experience differs from yours is that once the wireless would shut off (and I could be sitting right next to the wireless base station), I had to reboot to reenable it - normal function key toggle would not turn it back on (light would go on and off, but it didn't connect). However, since the temp is more constant in the house I've not experienced this issue in over 2 years.

I think this problem is more related to using a Intel wlan adapter. I and lot of others have disconnect problems using a Intel wlan adapter. I replaced mine with a IBM/Atheros and never had a single disconnect after that.
