My hinges have always been nice and tight, even after over 2 years of pretty heavy use (frequently tossed around, used in class, on campus, at home, in car, etc).. then wouldn't you know it.. less than 24 hours after the battery recall, my hinge is broken. I think it may be related because of the location of the battery, which may lend it to be a load-bearing part of the structure of the laptop.
Yeah, I have the ThinkPad Protection plan through September 2007, but I've had terrible experiences with letting my laptop leave my hands. what should have been an overnight repair took a month.. then the laptop came back with the wrong motherboard (radeon 7500 instead of my 9600), no bluetooth module, and they even swiped my atheros A/B/G for the intel B/G.. and I run an A network
So yeah.. if the part is really cheap, I may just buy it. If anyone has one laying around let me know.. or if you know the FRU that would be great.. I could call warranty support and beg them to just ship me the part instead of me giving them the laptop. I'll gladly install it myself, wouldn't take longer than 20 minutes of my time.
Argh as much as I hate Dell, since I'm Dell Warranty Parts Direct certified they don't question any parts orders I submit. I just put in the part name or part numbers on the web site, and the next morning when I get to work bam there they are. No questions asked, no bills.
