T40p: Questions about HD sound, keyboard & touchpad butt

#1 Post by Sebbot » Fri Oct 06, 2006 8:49 am

Hi,

some weeks ago I bought a second hand T40p G1G, 1 GB RAM. WIN XP PRO SP2 and all updates were installed by me (deleted Linux OS). The TP seems to be in a good condition, but I have some questions.

1. Even when no processes are running, every 5 to 7 seconds the HD makes a short sound. It doesn't sound unhealthy, but I am not sure it is meant to be that way. I still haven't installed too much software, except from Firefox and AntiVir. Starting the Task Manager, it is only the idle process (I don't know the exact translation) that uses CPU capacity. So it can't be malware or anything (I haven't surfed the Internet either) -- is that a regular thing?

2. I bought a new keyboard that I installed, it works fine. But writing feels different from other TPs. Is there a way to make it smoother? It's not about the sound, it's only that the keyboard feels as if the keys accept a bit too much pressure from my fingers. There is too much slackness -- any ideas to make it feel better?

3. The touchpad buttons don't react. Although I don't use them I would like them to work. Can I fix something by myself or shall I have it serviced? I am pretty sure that I tried all options via software, but I did not find anything. As far as I saw I can only swith off touchpad as a whole, not the buttons separately -- anybody who can help?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sebastian
"Is something wrong?" she said. Of course there is!
