Hey all,
I recently decided that I would like to replace the LCD/Top cover of my Thinkpad T42, as the previous owner didn't seem to be too careful with it, and it is basically srcratch-city on top.
I ordered an LCD cover kit direct from IBM (can anyone tell me exactly what this includes, as I was a bit unsure, but ordered anyway). Also, are there any guides outwith the HMM that would help me with doing this? basically all I am aiming to do is move everything into a new top shell (keeping front LCD bezel, LCD screen and everything else).
Ta!

Replacing Thinkpad T42 Top Cover
The LCD cover kit includes the back cover and the front bezel + the stick-on screw covers. No need to keep the old front bezel, especially since it is likely to be somewhat "damaged" during disassembly, i.e., small plastic tabs which help to keep it tight in place may break off.
The kit does not include the latch (2 pieces); remove and transfer those from the old cover. There is also a small plastic antenna cable "routing guide" (approx. 1/2"x1/2") that fits at the bottom left corner of the back cover which you will need to transfer from the old cover.
Two notes:
1) It is virtually impossible -- although tempting -- to replace the LCD cover properly while the structure is still attached to the base. Follow the steps in the HMM to remove the "top" from the base before you disassemble it. Repeat: do not skip this step.
2) The antennas (2 Wireless Lan, 1 Bluetooth) must be transferred from the old cover to the new one. If you don't have them in the old machine, then this may be the right time to add them.
Good luck!
