Fujitsu HDD: Comments, Compatibility ?

#1 Post by agarza » Sun Oct 08, 2006 7:30 am

I plan on replacing my noisy and non-stopping heat generator E7K100 for a Fujitsu 80GB HDD, but I've been wondering if the drive would get accepted by my T41p BIOS:
http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/jm/ ... 12.jpg&v=O

I don't have the model number, but I was wondering if I wouldn't get the 2010 error. And if that forementioned error do apply to T41p/T42p's or just the T43's..

Cheers.

I've had just about every HD available in one or another of my T41Ps at some time and I've never experienced any problems or 2010 errors.

I will work fine, in fact you will notice it is more silent.

I use to have in my 770Z.

Fujitsu HDD's are more silent than 5400rpm Hitachi drives?

I can say that the Fujutsu 40GB, 5400rpm drive that came with my T42 is definitely more silent than the replacement IBM Travelstar (Hitachi) 20GB drive I had in my 600E (don't remember the rpm). I don't hear my Fujitsu at all. I can't say whether that will translate into other model Fujitsu's or not. Fujitsu does list noise in decibles at idle (but not when transferring data :? ) on their website.

Could anyone post specific model numbers of Fujitsu HDD that has 5400rpm spindle speed and 8MB of data buffer.
So I can check on eBay and be sure what I'm getting.

Thanks

it's the MHV2080AS. I just installed mine yesterday. I freakin love it. It seems more responsive than my old Fujitsu 80GB 5400rpm that I didn't have any real problems with.

The MHV2080AS is designed for extended duty (24/7 operation). Its ambient operating temp is 5C to 40C. The regular version is MHV2080AH. Its ambient operating temp is 5C to 55C. For the US, the AH version seems to have 3 years warranty versus 1 year for the AS version. See specs here:
Fujitsu Mobile Hard Drives

Brent Presley has a slightly older version, MHT2080AH, for sale here and I think he will send it outside of US:

the MHT has an IBM FRU and is not the 8mb cache version.

hmm I should check to see if mine is the AS or AH.

Hmm, according to the Fujitsu specs, the MHT version should have 8mb cache:
MHTxxxAH specs

Is the IBM version different?

ah maybe I read it wrong somewhere... so did I just replace my MHT2080AH with the MHV2080AH for no good reason? yay *sulks*

edit: MHV seems to have slightly lower operating power levels, is 28 vs. 34dB, both have 3-year warranties, etc.
