Is the recovery CD the same for all T43 models?

#1 Post by Danster » Sun Oct 08, 2006 2:31 pm

hi there (first post)
I bought my T43 from a guy in Germany, but the XP was in german, which I of cause dont want, because Im danish :) So I need a English recovery CD. So can I use a recovery CD from any T43 model? I have called IBM, but they only wanna send me a freaking German recovery CD.
Thanks

EDIT: My dad also got a T43, but his is one with Centrino tech, and mine is "just" Pentium M. They are both 2668 -models. If I order a Recovery CD for his computer, is it then possible for me, to use that CD?

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums :)

Yes, it is possible for you to use his DnD disc set; the "Centrino" difference is simply just the wireless card. Usually, a true "Centrino" platform will have a Pentium M, Intel WiFi, and optionally an Intel GMA graphics controller/card.

Also, is your T43's keyboard in German as well?

But she is an IBM.

Yes it is, but I have ordered a danish keyboard...

The reason why I want to get the recovery CD, is because after I installed a "normal" XP version, the fan makes more noise (I have installed fan control, but I doesnt help).

Good to hear about the new Danish keyboard to go along with the new image load. :)

Changing it to what the factory preload would be like isn't going to have much, if any, effect on the fan noise with it. It will, however, give you the drivers for stuff that you may, or may not depending on if the german XP install was from IBM or just an off the shelf XP install, have had including some nice ThinkVantage software. The Power Manager has the ability to control the fan to some extent, but you are given more temperature sensor readings and more precision control with TP FCU in the end.

Yeah, I know it sounds weird, but when I had the german recovery installed (for like a day) the fan wasnt running all the time like it does know...
