Having problems with BIOS update for T43P

#1 Post by mystiky » Mon Oct 09, 2006 2:33 pm

I am an owner of the T43p (2668 model) and for some reason I am unable to get the following BIOS flashed onto my system:

Version: 1YET65WW (1.29)
Release Date: 2006/09/06

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-59096

I have tried to automatically download the update via the auto-update software and also downloading it separately and trying to run the .EXE by itself.

Upon executing the program, instead of booting into the BIOS on the next system start, Windows XP just loads up regulary. When I scan for new updates, it again flags this update.

I am currently running BIOS Version: 1YET64WW
and my Embedded Controller is the latest version.
And YES, I have my AC power plugged into the laptop when trying to run this.

Anyone with ideas what is going on?

I had the same problem with the latest BIOS update for my T42. I had a spare hard drive with just the factory software on it, and I was able to get the BIOS update to run OK with that. It is evidently a problem with Windows Updates or other software I have installed since I got my ThinkPad.

I am sure an install from the diskette version would work. Of course that normally requires an external USB floppy drive. Some users have been able to burn the diskette version on a bootable USB key or bootable CD. You'll have to search the forum to find the procedure.

did you check the CMOS setup to enable bios update?

stand alone method

do what i do.
Stand-alone update.

For unattended update, specify the file name with options
"-s -a -s". (e.g. C:\Temp\1YUJ18US.EXE -s -a -s)
The BIOS is updated without any user interaction.

I download the file to the C:\ drive, rename it to bios.EXE
then click start -> run -> C:\bios.EXE -s -a -s

No need to do anything else. the pc will reboot, flash, then it'll power off.

This will help a LOT of those who are having trouble trying to update their bios.

I have finally tried your suggestion, but still the BIOS upgrade doesn't run after the system reboots itslef. And yes, I have checked my CMOS setting and BIOS updates are ENABLED.

Also, I don't have a Floppy drive. But I do have a USB 128Meg keychain. Could I somehow flash the BIOS from it?

Help!
