Strange problem, presumably touchpad
hi folks,
just got my T43p about a month ago and noticed one strange and annoying behaviour:
when using the notebook standalone and typing fluent texts on the keyboard it often happens that the mousecursor moves to a different postition and somehow clicks itself, because in that moment i find myself typing a few lines further up inside the already typed text.
now initially i thought i must have touched the touchpad somehow but in the meantime i can rule that out. I even covered the touchpad with a small mirror to be sure but no chance, mouse still jumps and clicks. I also updated bios (1.29) and embedded controller (1.06) but still no joy....
cannot be the red knob either because me not using it i deactivated it from the beginning...
this is really nerveracking because it is next to impossible to type longer texts on the notebook keyboard.
does anybody have a hint for me as to what might be the reason for this?
cheers

You aren't alone. I've come across a T40 that does the same thing (w/ latest bios & embedded controller). I still haven't found a solution to fixing it.

You can also disable the TrackPad through the BIOS as well. If disabling all the pointing devices, along with not using an external mouse, still result in the anomalous cursor behavior during typing, then I would venture so far as to say that indicates a hardware problem, particularly one that lies with the connection to the system of the keyboard and keyboard cable.
You might want to try reseating it if all else with the software and BIOS doesn't work to get rid of the problem.

I've seen this happen on Dell Latitudes, and the "trackpoint" (I forget who makes the Dell equivalent) was to blame. If you pushed down on the keyboard hard anywhere near the eraser it would move the cursor around. Couple that with the setting that allows tapping the trackpoint to click, and you could have a problem on your hands.

Solved !!!
Hi folks,
just to let you know: I found that I had not installed the UltraNav-Drivers on my system. Doing so did the trick, no more jumps...
Cheers
