T43, hot or normal?

#1 Post by sergejs » Tue Oct 10, 2006 3:46 pm

I've searched forum on topics about temperature, but I am still no clear what is a normal CPU temperature for T43? I use linux, and I don't know how it behaves in Windows. I am using this program
http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=33257 to monitor my temperature, which reflects value in
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM0/temperature. During normal work the temparature is around 60 - 65 C. During long compilations the temperature rises up to 85 - 86 C and the area under the touchpad gets very hot. The fan always stays at around 4000 rpms. Is that normal?

Under intensive work, my CPU temp was about 60 Centigrade.
For normal use, it is about 45 Centigrade. This is under windows.

Did you enable scaling under Linux? That will drastically reduce the temperature.

Running your CPU underclocked or at full speed you get 60C?

My T41p CPu is 43-50C with my hideous E7K100 HDD which generates 43C max temp and it affects the CPU/GPU temps. This is using NHC with 0.732V @ 600MHz on my Dothan.

I thought that was might Linux issue. I just checked it on Windows using MobileMeter http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/
During heavy work the temperature rises up to 83 C.

You need to reseat the fan/heatsink and apply some Arctic silver 5 on the core of the CPU to decrease temps. Works for me

Refer to the guide nirvana001 posted a while:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=24621

The thermal compound on the CPU might be the cause of your high temps.

Check it there!
