best way to remove the windowsxp/centrino sticker?

#1 Post by esquire » Wed Aug 25, 2004 10:47 am

I'm tired of staring at those ugly metallic crooked stickers on my beautiful t42. Is there a best way to remove them? I wouldn't want to start ripping them off the wrong way and scratching up that sexy black plastic.

 hmm anyway, ideas anyone?

I took off my Pentium-M sticker and then relocated it to elsewhere on the palm rest. it was about 80F and very humid, and I was able to peel it off OK. got a little bent and lost some adhesive but it wasn't too bad. Anyone know if there is a place I can get a fresh sticker? I know the corner on this one is going to come up eventually because the adhesive is gone...

I put mine in the upper-right corner of the palmrest, to the right and above PgUp. I have a 15" screen and there is just enough space up there for it to fit snugly. the area doesn't get warm so with enough adhesive it should stay fine... and i like the sticker, i just didn't want it under my palm/wrist where i knew it'd wear off or rub me.

i'll tell you what worked best for me - just use your fingernail (if you have enough of one) and SLOWLY pry up one corner of the sticker. then try to peel it all off very slowly (like 3min each sticker), so you take all the adhesive with it. but if you leave some adhesive its ok, because you can use the sticker (once its off) to dab at the adhesive and it will come off onto the sticker. I did this for both stickers and theres nothing but smooth black plastic left!

Leon are you speaking from experience? I just ask, because this is often a step in model making to make sure a sticker never comes off. Some glues respond to heat by softening, others dry out and stick harder.
