Thinkpad Configuration - "Drivers Not Installed" ?

#1 Post by noetus » Wed Oct 11, 2006 2:23 pm

When I open the Thinkpad Configuration on my T42 there are nine buttons on each side for cofiguring 'Trackpoint", 'Display', 'PC Card Slots' and so on. The last one on the right hand side, immediately below 'Add-on-Devices', is greyed out, with a little question mark in the greyed-out icon, and the greyed out text underneath, "Drivers Not Installed". I have checked Windows Device Drivers and everything there seems fine. I haven't noticed anything not working. I seem to remember this always being there. I suppose I can safely ignore this, but I'm curious. Any ideas what it is?

There is nothing wrong. I have the same thing on my T41, and I always assumed it for some add-on I did not have.

Right-click on My Computer, select Manage, and thence select Device Manager. There should be nothing wrong there - Nothing. No x's, no ?'s. If something is wrong there, that is the place to pay attention to it. ... JD Hurst

I've got the same thing on my T42. My guess is that it becomes ungreyed if you DO have a device without its drivers installed. Then you could click on the icon to start a driver install wizard.

I never thought of that - I suppose you could be right! If so, slightly confusing design, wouldn't you say? It LOOKS like it's saying that there's a problem, and the reason why it's greyed out is that the drivers for some unknown device are not installed, not that there is not some possibly unknown device present without drivers installed! :D
