Messed up screen on Boot-up and thereafter

#1 Post by AllenS » Wed Oct 11, 2006 5:09 pm

Greetings:
Product is T43 1875DMU
The active screen on boot-up goes to about 3.4 inches from the left boundary(o.k.on the right). In that space there is another screen which was not loaded (in this cage it is Comcast.net. ( I can pull the main screen to the right and see that this is a full screen under the top screen (it bounces back when I let go). I cant make it go away)This is an annoyance. Rarely the active screen extends to the left boundary (i.e it behaves as it should).otherwise the computer works well.
I have two "Product Recovery" CD's. And could go through the directions for using one of these (Volume 1) but I don''t want to chance losing everything.
I could buy a copy of Winxp Pro and boot from that if that is necessary.
Any help will be appreciated. Allen

In your case, the product recovery CDs will not help you unless you have already done backups while your system was "good". Buying Windows XP to solve the problem you describe is totally unnecessary and ineffective, unless you intend to overwrite your existing sytem -- in which case, the recovery CDs can do that as well ... but you already stated that you don't wish to "lose" everything ... and you do not need to lose anything.

However, even given your detailed description o the problem, it is difficult to diagnose precisely what is causing the effect you describe. If you can find someone who has experience installing and configuring Windows and its video drivers, then that person can "adjust" the anomaly quickly. There is nothing wrong with your system that proper tweaking can't fix ... and that tweaking perhaps will involve the removal of adware/spyware programs which are causing the undesired effect.

Ideally you would have made a backup that you could restore from, but I take it that that is not the case. :(

Try Windows System Restore, to restore to a point before these problems occurred. Go to Start > Help and Support > Pick a task > Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
