T43 NOISE when on BATTERY and without USB device
T43 NOISE when on BATTERY and without USB device
Hello to all.
i'm buy a t43 2668 F5G and i discover a strange problem
that i did not notice on previous T23 T30 T41 and T42.
The problem is a strange noise (difficult to explain but seems to be electrical) that came from the bottom left side part of the thinkpad (near the USB)
From my analisy the problem appear only when thinkpad is on battery (i tried with different batteries) and when NO usb device are connected.
If you connect a USB or use NO Battery the problem desappear.
I upgrade to firmware 1.29 (the last) and seems that is a little better but the problem remain.
Some other one have this problem ?
Did you have some idea ?
Thanks, Giorgio.

Send it in.... and be very detailed about the problem. Mine was fixed with "miscellaneous parts" - so I can't tell you what the exact faulty part was, but so far I haven't had the noise again. Wish I knew, but there is a fix out there...
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hello Domain
other info i discover:
1) if i set power management to maximum the problem is evident, if i set to maximum battery the problem is very difficult to find
2) every time i set cpu to lower speed (i have 4 setting ) the pich lower until desappear
2) when i move the trackpoint a continuos high refquency noise is audible over the pitch.
3) the problem is not alway present (also if i use battery and no usb)
did you have the possibilities to discover what parts has been changed in yout thinkpad ?
Thanks Giorgio.

Dear Domain,
sorry i understand that is very difficult to explain.
To summarize the problem is show on a t43 2668 f5g with batteries (i try also to change)
The problem is a high frequency BUZZ with a TIC every seconds
the BUUZ problem is not always present but when i move the trackpoint the BUZZ continuos noise is audible until i stop the trackpoint
The problem is present only :
- on Battery and without any USB attached (if you attach a usb device or the current AC adapter desappear immediately)
-the problem is not always present but sometimes is less evident (less noise)
-the problem is CPU dependent (if i set power schema to lower cpu the problem seems to desappear) i can set 4 cpu speed and only at the fastest is evident
Someone have some idea or have the same problem ?
My best regards, Giorgio.

Giorgio,
Try something for me.
Put the machine in sleep mode - listen near the fans when they spin down to a halt. You will probably hear a sharp beep coming from that area... is that what you're hearing? I can't produce the beeping you hear when messing with my CPU settings.
I do however here a very, VERY VERY minute sound when I move the trackpoint. I have to put my ear down to the keyboard to hear it, however.

Also try looking at this thread and search for my name, it might be a fix in your situation.

For Domain:
I susped the pc and going near to pc i ear a sound but is is very very low and continuous and very high frequency, i think is not a problem.
This is not the pearch i ear usually that is louder and seems to be electrical.
For Initial ID:
i CONFIRM you that with winanp the noise goes away.
But also if i tun very demanding program.
It is very strange i work with IBM thinkpad (360/755/760/770/t21/t22/t30/t41/t42) and this is the first time i got this rumors.
The thinkpad work correctly but is not a good things
Thnaks and my best regards, Giorgio.

Giorgio,
Frankly, I'm at a loss then. I can't figure out what your sound is, sorry man. Like I said previous, I've heard only two types of beeps from my thinkpad, that were of a high pitch:
-A beep coming from the underside, left corner, intermittently, without any cause that I could figure out. I think it has to do with the battery power management, but yours could be replicated only with battery where mine did it on AC and battery.
-A beep with the thinkpad suspended, which you tried for me...
I'm at a loss, my friend, try running PC Doctor and see if anything fails the test. Otherwise, I've nothing to offer you.

I suspect this "beeping" is more of a "buzz"
When the Thinkpad is off, there is a little oscillatory buzz that comes from under the TrackPad portion of the palmrest. It is very quiet.
The other buzz can come from moving the mouse around with the TrackPoint or the TrackPad, but it usually goes away after you toggle the power schemes a few times (I have yet to figure out why though).
The other buzzing that I have heard can come from the left side of the Thinkpad, usually when it is on a power saving scheme and battery, which usually occurs whenever you run a task that utilizes a significant portion of the CPU. Again, the solution that I have found is that toggling the power schemes makes it go away after awhile. I also remember seeing a post awhile back that had a solution for it on Linux.

DEAR ALL,--------
probably problem SOLVED (or Bypassed)
I GOES IN HARDWARE PROFILE AND I SET TO NONE THE CHECKBOX TO NOT PERMIT TO COMPUTER TO DO ENERGY SAVING ON USB (ALL THE USB DRIVER) AND THE PROBLEM IS DESAPPEARED.
I WILL TEST BETTER AND I WILL LET YOU KNOW.
THANKS AND MY BEST REGARDS, GIORGIO.
