T43p Startup Error 200

#1 Post by NoBoCo » Thu Oct 12, 2006 5:39 pm

My T43p has begun to give hard disk Error 200 sporadically on startup. In most cases when this occurs, if I go into the BIOS setup and then exit without making any changes it will then boot Windows normally. Sometimes it takes 2-3 trys.

I have seen some mention of this error being caused by an incompatibility between the BIOS and the hard drive firmware, but both are at the latest versions (as far as I know).

BIOS 1.29
Embedded controller 1.06
HD Firmware (Hitachi HTS721010G9AT00) A51A

Is anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

Update your HDD firmware.

Upgrade to what? Version A51A is the latest available from Lenovo as part of release FWHD44 for this Hitachi drive (HTS721010G9AT00).

If you're going to give advice, try knowing what your talking about.

NoBoCo, is there anything showing up in event viewer, there may be a little bit more of a description of the error there.

I'd probably run pc doc, see what shows up there.

I had a similar problem with a desktop PC I bought from a hardware assembler. In other words, it was not one of the name brands. A subsequent BIOS update fixed the problem. This was with a SATA hard drive. Perhaps Lenovo will come out with a BIOS update that fixes your problem. On the other hand, maybe your hard drive is beginning to fail. Or maybe you just need to reseat the hard drive. Just a thought...
