Is it normal the touchpad getting hot?

#1 Post by agarza » Fri Oct 13, 2006 12:32 am

I replaced my hot E7K100 for the stock HDD. I do not feel the palmrest on the right side hot, but the touchpad kept getting hot, I thought removing the never-stopping disk could help, but the touchpad is hot.
This happens even when the CPU and GPU are underclocked.

Is it normal?

Not normal. There is nothing underneath the touchpad that should generate heat. The touch pad itself is very thin and is only an input device so it will not heatup by it self. The HDD does not go in that far.

In my T40 it does get warm, I think is because the hot air concentrates below the bezel.

Don't worry it's nothing.

The T4xp's do have enhanced graphics chipsets that do cause excessive heat, usually people feel it on their laps, though...

Yes indeed, the bottom of the laptop does get very warm.
The GPU is the hottest component on a T4xp laptop, it usually isaround 2-4C hotter than the CPU.
I guess the trackpoint get hot because its directly below the video chip.

Yes, that happens to my T41p. T4x and T60 series has been a dissapointed in design. They get overheated by the GPU/Southbridge/WLAN.
Underside where the CPU/GPu are located there's too much hot concentrated. Can't imagine holding my laptop in my lap for 30minutes. I'll burn :?

They do get hot, but I have never even felt them get uncomfortable. Just today I ran a computational fluid dynamics problem with both the COMSOL and Marc solvers and it really didn't get hot to the touch at all. Although this was when it was on adaptive mode, so that probably helped. :)

yeah mine doesn't get hot enough that it is uncomfortable.. I've used it in my lap for hours .. never inclined to remove it from my lap due to heat concerns. I'd rather the casing of the laptop get hot than just hold it all in. With full-featured, full power laptop as thin as the T4x it's going to get warm. They aren't nearly as bad as G4 powerbooks that I've used.. those burned to the touch.

Here my repetitive question once again:
What's the normal CPU temp reading after 2 hours @ full steam [original voltaje, no underclocking] My CPU is 52-55C all the time. Undervolted even gets to 50C and the fan has to start (Smart Fan) in TPFancontrol
