Wireless -- and now wired -- connectivity problems

#1 Post by hapster » Sat Oct 14, 2006 9:28 am

Had my T42 networked to my network in adjacent bedroom for wife to use and hooked up the Ethernet cable to it so I had a faster connection. I've got a Netgear router that I have my desktop and her T42 hooked up to. Everything was working fine and I simply used Fn5 to disable the wireless access. Fast-forward a couple months.

Wife has surgery, is confined to bedroom across the house for awhile. I unhook Ethernet cable from T42, try to fire up the wireless via Fn5. Clicking on "ON" doesn't do anything. It just sits there and gets clicked but doesn't turn on. Even if I click "Find Networks," it doesn't find any networks, obviously, since it can't seem to turn the wireless on.

I brought back the T42 to try to get the wired (Ethernet) access again and now IT won't hook back up to the network.

WHen I reboot the machine, the Access Connections finds my home wireless setup SSID very briefly -- i.e., I see it flash momentarily and see the name of the network, even with a "Connection Successful" message and then it quickly shuts off.

Reinserting the Ethernet cable, it says it's hooked to the network with 100Mbps but it has the yellow triangle with the ! in it and it won't repair itself.

Help....

Thanks.... Hap

Maybe one of the two links below will help.
Using the Network Diagnostics Tool

Troubleshoot TCP/IP Connectivity
DKB

Thanks, Gom.

I'll take a look at that later. I'm out and about now, but earlier, after I posted the orig post, I uninstalled Access Connections and that restored my Ethernet capability. I guess the wired and wireless were conflicting in some way. However, now I can't access T42 from the desktop in the other room, but I can see the desktop from T42. These [censored] things are so touchy.

Thanks again for the help.

Hap
