Upgrade RAM / HD ? T42 14.1'' XGA | 512 MB RAM | 40 GB HD

Hello!
I ordered that ThinkPad (see Subject)
It's my first notebook.

The seller allows to upgrade RAM and/or HD.
I could get two 512 RAM and a 80 GB HD.

1.:
Should I order that two 512 MB RAM modules,
or is one enough (Windows XP Prof.)
I mostly browse the internet (while listening to music and instant messaging). And I will do usual office works (OpenOffice, some html, etc)

Won't it save some battery power, because the HD isn't working so much if you got enough RAM?

1.2:
If I don't order that second 512 MB RAM, am I'm able to upgrade it later by myself? (with garanty left?)
I am not good in hardware stuff, never changed some ram or anything.
If yes: how much would it cost? (512 MB RAM for T42)

2. How much hd space will _I_ have? (40GB HD)
There is that IBM partition (i heard of),
and Windows XP Prof.
How much space will be left "for me"?

1. Start with 512MB; it sounds fine for the uses you describe. You can add more memory later, very easily and without voiding the warranty, as follows:

2. The IBM partition takes approximately 5GB, and Windows XP + applications will take another 5GB ...Total = 10GB. The rest of the hard disk space is yours ...

Good luck. Enjoy your new machine!
