T41 Power Problems Need Help!!!

#1 Post by RIVADO » Mon Oct 16, 2006 11:40 am

Hi Guys,
My name is Steffen and I own a T41. I like the T41 very much but now I have a big problem with them. Here is the problem I have and I hope that anybody out there can help me or now that problem too.

The problem is a power problem. If I remove the Battery behind on the T41 and after that I plug on the power supply I can start the T41 and all work very well. If I remove the power supply and plug on the battery and start the T41 it will work from time to time. The Battery is new and have only 4 times recharged. The T41 will boot with the Battery up to the window screen and then it turn off self. The battery is full charged and I think they will be OK.
If I plug on the battery and the power supply then it is the same the T41 work form time to time. Sometime it work perfect and sometimes it turn off by self but if it turn off then ever if you see the blue window screen that say welcome if you start the T41 .
After that turn off I removed the battery BUT don’t plug out the power supply. Then I push the power button to restart the system BUT the only thing that the T41 does is to switch on the small lamp (circle with N inside) and that is all (no other light goes on, no HDD nothing). I push the power button again to turn off the system. Then I push power again to restart the T41 but same procedure nothing except the small lamp come up . I push power again to turn off the T41. After that I remove the power supply and plug on the power supply again. Then I push the power button and the system runs very well without problems.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY T41 ???? I NEED SOME HELP PLEASE!!
Sorry for my English.
regards
Steffen

Just a guess mind you, but I think it might be the charging circuit on the system board (also called motherboard or planar) acting up. You probably need a new system board.

Perhaps someone else will reply that has better news. In the mean time, you can try running PC Doctor, and see if it reports anything. PC Doctor for Windows - ThinkPad G40, R40, R40e, R50/p, T40/p, T41/p, X31, X40 / NetVista / ThinkCentre

I was going to say the same thing. I work on a lot of these T40/41/42's every week and usually when you see just the power light come on and no video, no beeps and no HDD activity, its the system board.

You can try removing the battery and AC cord...press the power button 12 times and on the last press, hold it for 30 secs. Replace the battery and the AC cord and try to turn it on again. If that doesnt work, you need a new system board.

Good luck!

This quote is extracted with courtesy from Mr BillMorrow
your problem MIGHT be software, it is probably hardware and thus in need of repair..

to test for software, you should pull the HDD and try to boot into the bios area..
not tp make changes but to see if it will work while on battery..
@RIVADO & @hambone667,Welcome to this amazing thinkpad club.

best regards,
