IBM Fan policy
IBM Fan policy
Hey guys,
My 2668 is doing great except for the fan is getting louder and louder,
i'm thinking i need to oil it or it might die?
is that true?
Will IBM replace the fan [still under warranty] and send something out? or do i have to send it in.
or.. is oiling the fan myself recommended [i might as well as do arctic silver 5 while i'm at it too.]
any advice?
thanks

I think one poster here oiled there fan, although I can't quite remember if it reduced the fan noise. If you can isolate the fan as being noisey and the machine is still under warranty, then you can call up IBM/Lenovo and there is a good chance they will replace it for you upon you sending it in to them.

Yeah, which is why you might be better off just ordering a new fan an installing it yourself if you feel so inclined; either that or on-site service if you have it.shiyang wrote:i don't want to leave my machine and get my screen cracked or something like that...
If you do decide to send it off, take pictures of it before, especially the insides as well as the fan, and the LCD screen plus lid cover; then examine it very carefully after you get it back.

I have the fan issue since couple days ago. the fan sounds much louder than previous. I probably send in my tp to fix in December.

This is easily solved oiling the bearing on the fan. There was a guy on other forums who just did that on a T4x machine and the fan didn't make noise at all.
I've also oiled the fan of my T30. And also a desktop fan

oil suggestions
WD40?
or motor oil..
or motor oil..
so i balked at oiling it
didn't think i had the time to set aside to do it
what i did do was clean the fan, and it's blades.
it's perfect now, minimal noise.
it appears not to be the bearing but the off balance fan that's making the noise.
if you clean it so to make sure it's still in balance, we're good to go.
