Solution for buzzing noise on T43?

#1 Post by Senser » Thu Oct 19, 2006 1:14 pm

Like the subject says, is there a solution for the buzzing fan noise that my T43 is producing? The buzzing noise is repeated with a 5 second interval.

If working in a quiet environment it's highly irritating.

I searched the forum and found somebody refering to RightMark CPU utility, but that is not the solution in my case. Also, changing the power profile does not make a difference.

Any suggestions?

and there are two possible causes 1. it's due to dust collecting the fan and making it off balanced.
2. the fan shaft has collected dust/needs oiling.

I would recommend cleaning the fan and the area aroundit with a que-tip slightly wet with alcohol, with the computer off.

you only have to remove the keyboard for this.

It has proven highly effective for me.

Only oil the fan/replace it if you really can't fix it any other way.

i've heard horror stories for that

thanks

Yesterday I opened up my T43 and cleaned the fan with alcohol. There was not much dust on the fan, but cleaned it anyway. Also loosend the screws of the fan a bit (read that on the forum somewhere).

Unfortunately that did not help very much. Is oiling with WD-40 something I could try?

Found a solution for the buzzing (at least in my case). The buzzing seems to be caused by TPFanControl.

Without TPFanControl the buzzing is gone, but of course the fan noise is back. I've switched to SmartFan for now..

happens with SmartFan as well.. :(
