T43 new battery query

#1 Post by alexzabr » Fri Oct 20, 2006 5:09 am

Hi.
Just received a new 6-cell battery I picked on Ebay brand new, sealed.
It was advertised by the seller as 92P1101 which means the new Lenovo batch (those that sell now on Lenovo site - not subjected to the recall).
The box label indeed reads 92P1101 but inside the actual battery turned to be FRU P/N 92P1087 ASM P/N 92P1086 which is apparently older then 92P1101 batch.
In-machine battery check-up clears that the battery is indeed brand new, 0 cycles, actual full capacity is slightly higher then the designed one and first charge initiated 10/2006, i.e. yesterday, exactly when I first plugged it into my T43 for charge.
Manual check on Lenovo site revealed the battery is not affected by the recall (obvious as I later checked in-machine batteyr info and it says is is by Sanyo, not Sony).

So albeit the battery indeed is brand new and good, I'm puzzled by teh fact that it is not 92P1101. I've contacted the seller to see what he has to say in this regard, though I cannot say I'm dissapointed bearing the good price I paid for it (around 40-45$).

My original battery (also 6-cell) is indeed affected by the recall and I'm awaiting for the replacement (which I expect to be of 92P1101 series).

So, what would be your opinion ? Accept the battery and relax or there is the reason to deal with the seller towards return/exchange or partial refund ?

My recall replacement battery is a 92P1087, so you're all set there. It's a fairly new batch, mine was manufactured like the end of September 2006. (sept 26th I think).

OK, so the replacement batteries aren't necessarily have to be of the new 92P1101 series (although I would expect it to be so).
My issue shrinks to the acceptance of what I obtained instead of promised 92P1101 (given both seems to cary equal capacity).
If there is no any benefit of brand new 92P1101 over 92P1086, technically my deal can be perfectly accepted, the ony mental hesitation would be the fact of not receiving exactly what has been promised in the auction...

Yes, thanks, that helps.
Q10 describes the situation close to mine - on the box exterior the label reads 92P1101 while the actual battery inside can be 92P1088 (APN) FRU: 92P1089, however in my case the box contain 92P1086/92P1087 which aren't mentioned in the PDF.
Now, reading the doc once again, I notice in this question they talk about Sony-loaded batteries, and mine that I'm talking about is Sanyo which may explain it not to be 92P1088/89..

92P1101 is the model part number and is the part number you would use to order from Lenovo. It can be from different suppliers and the FRU on the battery label identifies which supplier made it. In your case, Sanyo.

6 cell:
92P1087 - Sanyo
92P1089 - Sony
92P1091 - Panasonic

Oh, great, thanks.
Now that clarified the picture completely, I will get back to the seller acknowledging our deal and leaving him positive feedback.

Thanks a lot, Alex

thanks for the posts. I had the same problem. ordered 92P1101 and got the 92P1087.

mine is a year old, appears to be new. says Nov 06 as first date used. it's a Sanyo.

it now says cycle count 2. is that because I ran the battery down to 1%?
