T40 Repair/Defect Survey - Please Participate!!

#1 Post by Bg357 » Fri Oct 20, 2006 11:37 am

:!: Please Note :!:

Vote only if you've been a normal T40 user for more than 6 months. If you buy/repair/sell T40s, you probably wouldn't fairly represent the "normal" user, so use your best judgment in participation.

You don't need to be a current T40 user to participate in the survey as long as you were a user for at least six months at one time.[/b]

Please read all the statements carefully before voting.
Some of the statements are a little convoluted but they have to accommodate the fact that you can only select one.

Unless this survey is conducted across a broad range of ThinkPad models plus some other mainstream models, what will it really tell us?

We already know that the industry rate of failure is close to 20% in the first year and close to 30% within four years for laptops. Not very good if you do the math - 1 in 5 fail in year one.

I am conducting similar surveys on T23s & T30s which along with T40s are the models I'm comparing.
Obviously, it's not a scientific survey and it probably won't show much, especially with the limited participation I'm seeing.
If it doesn't tell you anything, just think of it as a sociological experiment. 8)

Besides the one little pressure point on my LCD, nothing's happened in the 7 months I've owned my T40, so I voted for the last option :)

The T40s in the lab have been there for around a year now and have not had any problems; so I guess the last option goes as well. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Motherboard failures

#7 Post by Bg357 » Sat Oct 28, 2006 11:43 am

To those who reported a motherboard failure: Was your issue due to the VGA problem that many have alluded to in this forum, or was it some other defect?

2 motherboard changes this year, both due to USB not working at USB2 speeds. Other that my T40 has been a beauty.
