T40P - backlight is gone, fix ?

Did a search but this has not been experience before apparently : backlight gone completely.

Had a similar problem to this, T40P wouldn't power up and now for some reason the darn things boots up but there is no backlight at all, can barely make out what's on the screen, I pressed the little contact top left above the keayboard but its not helping, switched extenal on/off, LCD on/off, no go I find it odd that the entire "lighting" would be gone like that, as fate would have it, warranty just ran out so I guess I might pop it open.

Could it simply be a cable that got disconnected ?

Could be. You'd have to check the connection cable of the inverter card, I think.

But the most likely explaination is that your inverter card itself has just died. I don't know how much it costs, or where you can find one, though.

Thanks, will pry it open and see if I can find a diagram to locate tha part, too bad it happened a month too late for the warranty

Hey, wait a minute, you might give it a try and call IBM in order to replace the TFT. From what I heard they are pretty cooperative sometimes and repair Thinkpads that just got out of warranty, so you might just give it a try. Maybe you're lucky...
