Hi, I got the T42p with 9-cell battery today. What are the best practice for having the battery live the longest?
I heard from some IBM Partner here that it's best to set battery to start charging at 30%, not at 96%. Is there any truth to this?
What to do, when running of mains, I run of mains mostly.
The battery in my A21p which 6 months ago held up for 40 minutes is now just good enough to come out of hibernation, find wi-fi, open couple of apps and it's at critical level already, it wouldn't hold for more than 10 minutes. Is this normal? Did I cause this by doing something wrong?
Anyway, I'd not like have the battery go bad on the T42p.

I'm newbie here but I cant tell you something:
With my previous Dell I got 5 to six hours on a 6 cell battery. My "almost new" from T42 2373 (used from ebay) with 9cell battery give me 8 hours at max battery and 5 to 6 hours with "normal" use at speed step with wi-fi and brightness al level 2.
Try customizing with Notebook Hardware Control. It give good results

Yes, I run mostly on mains (work, home, uni, library...) I mostly need battery if I want to check something online on a hotspot, bus station, cafe...
I read that with 40% charge battery degradation is lowest so I'll keep battery at about that, I set up battery maximiser to charge it only to that point. It will be enough for occasional brief online jump and if I need longer life I can charge it to full.
