Does the T42 have USB 2.0 ports?

#1 Post by chermesh » Thu Nov 02, 2006 2:55 pm

Hi,
I bought an internal hd' which I've connected to my Thinkpad T42 using an external enclosure. The enclosure is connected by USB to the laptop.
Whenever I connect the HD to my laptop, I get a message suggesting me to switch to a quicker port.
I wonder, aren't the USB ports of the T42 USB 2.0?

Yes, they are USB 2.0. You either have a configuration/driver problem, or a faulty motherboard...

Where can I find USB drivers?

#3 Post by chermesh » Thu Nov 02, 2006 3:41 pm

Hi,
I checked the IBM site and all I found is a USB Access driver for Windows NT 4.0.
Is there a source for a winxp driver?

That driver is for the old and trustworthy Windows NT

Have you checked the enclosure case with a HDD runs at full speed connected in another PC with USB 2.0

Have a flash drive? If the same message appears to you, then there's something wrong with your motherboard

Hi

Unfortune, it's a well known problem with USB..What you wrote, suggest you have Win XP SP2..

all you have to do is:

update the driver using the following process:

1) Right click on the USB 2.0 controller in Device Manager
2) Select Properties
3) Select 'Driver' Tab
4) Click 'Update Driver'
5) Select 'No, not this time'
6) Select '...specific location'
7) Select 'Don't search...'

9) Select the 3rd driver in the list, the one which isn't digitally signed. Also it contains the word 'USB2' not 'USB 2.0' in it's name.
10) Test the USB 2 device and it should running at USB 2 speed!

Same insctruction you can find on that forum..
