Intel Centrion Wireless Worm

#1 Post by Techgurl » Thu Nov 02, 2006 4:10 pm

I recently purchased a T-43 and this is my first time using Intel wireless.

Recently I was reading about a worm that can infect the wireless chipset I have.

How worried should I be about this? Has this been corrected with the IBM drivers?

Can I expect any problems if I download the Intel drivers?

Thanks

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums :)

That is slightly dated, as far as the drivers go; as long as you have updated to the latest Wireless drivers from IBM/Lenovo, you should be fine. There were some threads in the Hardware/Software forum regarding that when it first came out as Lenovo didn't release the patched Intel drivers the day that Intel announced it as it took some time for them to get the latest, package them, then push it out as an update.

Thanks for the information I am looking for the driver but the site is a bit confusing. There is an auto update program here. Should I try that or does it update all the drivers?

Thanks

Either use Software Installer or System Update 2 to update your drivers and software if you deem it necessary. Take care though, do not update to PC-Doctor 5 just yet as there is a bug in the slient installer package it comes in that can have serious side effects, although it won't really affect day-to-day operation of the Thinkpad. :)

if you use the auto update can you select what drivers to install?

I am not a believer in just upgrading stuff to upgrade unless it has a problem.

Thanks
