T42 Speakers and Sound

#1 Post by covertash » Fri Nov 03, 2006 9:09 pm

Hey everyone!

Yeah, I know I've been posting what seems like endless amounts of questions, but I'm just hooked on fixing up my Thinkpads. :D

This leads me to my next question regarding the loudness of my T42's speakers. I don't know about anyone else, but it seems my T23's speakers are a lot louder and fuller sounding. Is it possible that the speakers just aren't as powerful or does it have to do with the sound card as well? And if it were the speakers, would buying a new set help?

And as usual, any help that you TP users can provide is much appreciated! 8)

It all depends on the source. If you're watching a DVD generally the sound is low, so you need to lift up the volume, but even doing so, the volume doesn't get more loud.

If you play MP3 some of them may have a loud dB.
But I think is normal the T4x speakers are not of the same quality like the other Thinkpads because they're so small to fit the slim chassis

Don't forget that there are two ways to adjust the volume: the buttons next to the Access IBM key, and Windows' volume control function.

It's true about the smaller size of the speakers though, which is something I didn't think about. In any case, I've kinda come to accept the sound from these speakers. In loud rooms, such as events that I work in for student organizations, the sound is not as great as my T23. But in quieter environments, which is where I'm at more than half the time, the loudness and fullness is more than adequate.

Thanks for the pointers guys! 8)
