Where is the best guide to IBM thinkpads? Tabook? IBM.com,

#1 Post by nikemen » Sun Aug 29, 2004 5:14 pm

I am looking for some new laptops for parents and a friend. will buy two of the same.

Where is the best place to find details and specifics? I know they want 15" screens, but dont' need super high speed, although I may just buy it to get the latest. Price really isn't an isseu for them.

I know that Ultrabrite, FLEXVIEW is not going to work, and don't know if 15" 1400x1200 is still too high res, but should be okay.

Is the best deal bill, or ibm.com discount for SPP (which I am?)

Just a point in the right direction would be great, I REALLY don't like the IBM.COM product finder grid, I think it misses items and models sometimes.

Yep, tabook is your friend. Bill has really good deals. Once yoy've got your model number, email Bill (Bill@thinkpads.com), and he will give you a quote. Don't be afraid of the high resolution. It doesn't mean that you have to use that resolution. It's refers to the maximum resolution the display can handle.

The 15" high performance models do not come in anything lower than 1400x1050. That is also a Flexview screen. There is a 1024x768 screen but it comes with the Radeon 7500 which is definitely not futureproof.

Download the TAbook and find an option that works for you.

That's somewhat misleading. I would NEVER recommend switching out of an LCD's native resolution, and the quality of it is HORRIBLE.

That's why we strongly recommend that everyone read the FAQ at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=1689 where the very first entry is a link to tabook and its siblings. In fact, it's even in a section called "Read me first FAQ then post" at the very top of the list of sections to make it easy to find.

haven't read the READ ME FIRST FAQ since I started here four months ago, or was it more than four months?

I did a search for tabook and came up with some references and no links. And, on ibm.com, a search yielded no results.
