(T43) Client Security Software error: can't connect to TPM

#1 Post by sglebs » Sun Nov 05, 2006 9:58 am

Hi,

The fingerprint reader/login works fine on my T43. So, I decided to see what else I was missing and installed the Client Security Software. Unfortunately I get a TPM error when I get to my account. Some background info:

- Yes I enabled the security chip before installing CSS
- Yes, I tried both version 6.01.0042 and 7.00.0022.00

With version 6, the error dialog says:
This instance of cssauth.exe cannot start because of an initialization error.

With version 7, the error dialog says:
There was a problem connecting to a critical service. It is possible that anti-virus or firewall software is blocking the connection. Also, check to make sure that the TPM device driver is installed and enabled.

Some more background:

- I did all sorts of upgrades to try to fix this: BIOS, Winbond TPM driver, etc
- Winbond Trusted Platform Module 1.1 version 5.1.47.2011
- BIOS 1yet65ww (1.29)
- The TPM device is ok in Device Manager
- I did tell the Windows Firewall that C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\CSSLauncher.exe was an exception, giving it full access
- Same for C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution\cssauth.exe

IBM support said they do not troubleshoot this type of problem. I would have to do a fresh install and then maybe. In the meantime my warranty expired, so now not even that is a possibility for me.

Has anybody else seen this problem? Any tips? It must be some software conflict?

I also run Windows Defender and the AVG Anti-Virus.

Thanks,

marcio
