T41p battery runtime

#1 Post by cbell » Mon Aug 30, 2004 8:28 am

Hello,

just wanted to find out if my battery is ok. When surfing the web only, my battery is completely discharged after 2 hours. The battery is 1 weak old and has 0 charge cycles on it.

Is that normal? The battery information porgram states that full-charge capacity and design capacity are the same. Power drain is about 20W. How can that be? Display is dimmed.

Looks to me that you haven't enabled speedstep for your processor (see other threads for how to). With dimmed display and low proc frequency, power drain on my T40p is ~11W, which translates to well over 6 hours with the 9-cell battery.

I have set the CPU Power to be adaptive in the Battery Maximizer Wizard. Power Drain is now down to 15W, battery runtime is only 2,5h now. Not even closed to the advertised 4h!

If I recall correctly the 6-cell battery (which I assume you have) is 48W, which means that my laptop would last for over 4 hours. What sort of usage are we talking about? You shouldn't expect 4 hours of DVD playing, but for office work your consumption should be lower. Could you check it with other features (such as active protection) off?
