I have Fan error mesage, help me with part numbers.

Hi,

The thinkpad is T40, when I boot it gives me fan error message, i cleaned the fan, reconnected and conected the connector, nothing is working.

I need to buy a fan assembly, the part number is FRU 91P8393, researching it online i found some sellers list FRU 91P9254 as replacement (substitute), according to the description both FRUs should work for the notebook, but IBM help document lists 91P8393 only.

My questions: Are they substitutes? they look similar on the picture, and what the deal with different FRUs for the same products, is 91P9254 discontinued one or for older version.

I think both FRU's should work on your machine.
My T41p came with a short fan (don't know the FRU) which obviously when gaming, the GPU overheated and the machine just froze. A technician made the swap for a Fan Long M24.

Thing is, you can put any heatsink as long as it's for a T4x laptop
