Battery for my T40 on eBay

#1 Post by tommyhilfiga » Wed Nov 08, 2006 3:03 am

Hi,

I'm currently looking for a new battery. I found some cheap batteries on eBay, and was wondering if it was actually worth buying these here.

Or would there be any other place I could buy batteries for my T40 for cheap in Australia? My current one only lasts for 15min max.

thanks
Tom

Hi,

In Feb 2005 I bought a generic battery for my r40e from aussie battery via ebay and it is still going strong. I'd buy a generic battery from them again.

Regards

thanks for the input mate. it's really appreciated.
Pardon my ignorance but what would the difference between OEM and generic be exactly?

cheers.

In practical terms that is hard to say. In theory original equipement manufacturer parts could be (should be for the price) better quality than the generic stuff but it is not uncommon for OEM parts and the generic parts to be manufactured in the same factory.

With regards batteries the quality of the cells and the circuitry could be questionable equating into reduced capacity. My only experience is with the generic battery I bought for the r40e and as mentioned it hasn't given me any problems and seems to have performed the same as an OEM battery. Good luck

OEM basically = genuine IBM product, generic is a third party manufactured product...there may be a more accurate description that someone else can provide. I haven't personally experienced the difference between the 2 (since both my T40's batteries are genuine IBM), but in terms of the selections available, I'd probably prefer one of the Australian vendors over a HK/China-based one...depends on what sort of warranty they make available to you.

In addition, my 2nd battery was a second hand one from a "non-business" member. I sort of gambled on it because the seller wasn't sure how many cycles it had, but for $30, I was pretty happy that it got to me with about 100 cycles.

Thanks for the inputs guys, it's really appreciated.

So you guys reckon the generic batteries won't be affected by the recent batteries explosions we've seen? :)
Also anywhere to buy OEM for a low price in the Sydney area?

cheers.
