ebay purchase -- possible to extend warranty?

#1 Post by mpease » Mon Aug 30, 2004 1:46 pm

Hi all -
I'm considering buying a thinkpad off ebay... but it only has a 1 year warranty.

Is it possible to extend the warranty to 3 years? Anyone have some idea of what that would cost (for a T42 & a X31?)

Thank you!
Matt

If it's currently under warranty, you should be able to purchase an extension on IBM's web site. IIRC, buying a machine with a 1 year warranty and an extension is much cheaper than buying a machine with 3 year warranty.

Yes, howver, you should contact IBM to verify. Also, have you tried Bill? He might possibly be able to get you something for the same price. And even if it's a little more money, at least you're getting it from a Authorized Reseller. my .02

Sounds promising... but how do i contact bill? Do I just send him the number code of the machine I'm interested in?

Matt,

I think a ThinkPad purchase off of EVILbay is too risky, I'm in a dispute with a jerk that owes me $500.00 right now.

Go with Uncle Bill from this forum, you will not be sorry. Great deal and great service.

Matt,

Yep, just send him an email (bill@thinkpads.com) with the model number you are interested, and he will give you a price quote or suggest another model (with simillar or same specs, but can give you a better price).

Regards,
