long startup
long startup
Hey guys,
this has been happening for a while, but i havn't notice it.
My T43 takes forever to boot, not resume from standby or anything, which is what i usually do.
if you do a restart or a clean boot, it hangs for 90 seconds or so while the network is being loaded, and you can't do anything.
once the network icons come up, the rest of the start up programs load and takes about 15 more seconds and life is good.
Any explination for the 90 second pause?
i've updated the drivers etc... help?
thanks

Re: long startup
Do you use any network shares? If you do, check whether any of them are persistent -- "net use" at the command prompt.shiyang wrote:if you do a restart or a clean boot, it hangs for 90 seconds or so while the network is being loaded, and you can't do anything. once the network icons come up, the rest of the start up programs load and takes about 15 more seconds and life is good.
Use "Hibernate" instead of shutdown
New installation of Windows XP is always very fast. However, given more and more applications being installed, the system inevitably becomes slower and slower due to the OS loading various drivers/daemons during startup.
If you have more free space in hard drive, a solution to avoid the slow startup (and shutdown as well) process is to enable "Hibernate" and press Fn+F12 each time when you turn off the machine instead of complete shut down.

Re: Use "Hibernate" instead of shutdown
are applications slower too?
If I understand your problem correctly, I have seen this sort of thing before on my T42. At the time, setting the Wireless Zero Configuration service to Automatic and Started, seemed to fix the problem for me. Yet now, I have the Wireless Zero Configuration service Disabled and Stopped, and I am not experiencing this issue.
I believe the delay is caused by your system trying to log onto a network that is unavailable at the time.
Here are a couple of similar threads. See if the information there will help you.

DKB
i don't have access connections installed
but it does sound like my network is being slow and thus my computer won't respond... if i disable all my adapters, it's good.
is there a way to force windows to load my other start up programs while it's initializing the network?
or am i stuck waiting.
