Hi,

People who have or thinking about upgrading to SP2 should have a look at this site:

I think the list will get longer.

My first attempt at upgrading to SP2 on my T30 crashed my computer and made it unbootable. I figured out the problem and then used the restoration CD's and updated a few days later without any problem, so I can add to the list for sure.

I was using Japanese Multiligual Interface, an option with XP that most don't know about. There is this option in just about every language. What it does is make your whole computer (although it's an English Language version of Windows) act as if it's totally another language version.

You have to disable Multilingual Interface and go back to English before the upgrade or the upgrade will get confused as to which one it is downloading and installing (when running Windows Update), then when you reboot, you get "Syntax not recognized" and your computer will be unable to boot.

After the upgrade, you can turn back on the Multilingual Interface.
BTW, I've heard that even without the Multilingual Interface, if you have the region language settings for programs set to another language, SP2 will crash your computer if you download it and install it while this choice is selected, but I have not confirmation of that.

The SP2 Saga continues ....

IBM post regarding DLA

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-56770

Some time ago I decided to go with retail version of RecordNow (I needed some functions which was not available with OME version). This post was on Sonic support site:
Important Announcement:

Sept 2, 2004

Microsoft's Service Pack 2 for Windows XP (XP SP2) started releasing on 8/10/2004. XP SP2 corrects numerous security vulnerabilities and adds security enhancements to Windows XP and Internet Explorer. Sonic product compatibility testing has been in progress for several months and some minor compatibility issues exist with earlier versions of Sonic Desktop products.

Until a full qualification is completed and compatibility list posted we recommend that customers running Sonic Desktop products purchased before 8/1/2004 not install XP SP2. Please contact Sonic Desktop Support for further information.
I believe IBM uses the same engine of Sonic software for their OEM version.

Which brings me to the question of what were they doing in the past several months?

It is obvious by now that every software manufacturer had decided to wait and use the the initial people who downloaded the SP2 as test subjects.
