T42p UltraNav problems

#1 Post by excaliburlives » Wed Nov 15, 2006 11:42 pm

I just picked myself up a Thinkpad T42p laptop. The only thing it needed was a harddrive. I put in a new harddrive and installed windows XP Pro w/SP2 on it. Everything is working fine except for the touch pad. I downloaded eveything that i could from IBM and Lenovo including the software installer. Nothing worked. I downloaded the ultranav drivers and the ultranav wizard. After i installed the drivers i tried to install the wizard. It gave me an error saying i had to enable it from bios. I checked bois about 10 times and for the life of me i can't find it. I looked at my supervisor's laptop at wich is a T42, and looked in his bios. It looks like he has an option to turn on touchpad wich is right underneath the trackpoint in bios. On my laptop there is no opttion under trackpoint or mousepoint i think. It's just blank. I figured it might need a bios update but it looks like the bios in my laptop now is from 06/02/06. Anybody know what's wrong or how i can fix this. My wife really has to have the touchpad. She reallyhates the trackpoint.
Thanks for any help i can get.

Why not remove the ultranav and install the palmrest without it?

I removed the ultranav from my T40 and i consider it an upgrade. :)

There is nothing for me to remove. I just want to be able to use the touchpad as a mouse. Is it possible? There are no options for this in bios at all.

That thread was perfect. The problem was the wire. The previous owner unplugged it. I opened it up and found the plug out. Just plugged it back in and it worked first shot.
Thank you very very much!
