T43 pusling fan, is this common?

#1 Post by justthinking » Tue Nov 21, 2006 3:54 am

My T43 has the problem with USB port making high-pitch noise when running on battery,
although it took Lenovo 3 tries, they did manage to solve the problem with a new planar card.

(first time the entry level technician simply run the notebook w/ AC and determined there is nothing wrong,
second time the higher level technician did spot the problem and did sove it w/ a new planar card,
but she put in the wrong short fan that doesn't cover GPU, finally on the third try they finally managed to install all right parts.

However, this new fan Lenovo installed, is making a weird sound about every 5 seconds.
Every 5 seconds or so, the fan would make a pulsing sound as if it's trying to go up and increase the speed but didn't.
This is really annoying, as the fan noise although is louder than T42, still acceptable to my ear,
but the irregular pulse noise every 5 seconds just drives me crazy.

What should I do? Explain to Lenovo and ask them to replace the fan again?
I tried TP Fan Control and keep the fan speed constant at level 2, but the pulsing sound still occurs every 5 seconds.

just, check the "thinkpad utility work area" in reference to fan issues and ways to get help with them. :)

Well, for me TPFanControl does not solve the buzzing noise. The buzzing fan noise is only heard when using TPFanControl!!

If I turn off TPFanControl, the buzzing noise is gone, but than the fan starts to blow and never turns off. :(
