Hi, again
I have T42 that bit slow + too much thinkgs installed on it, so I decided to reintall it back to the egg. Just curiouse how all IBM security stuff will behave, I have currently <Client Security > and <Active Protection System> installed.
Just got all recovery CD and embedded passwd from prev owner.
I have Client Security running for old user, which I belive I can get rid off without any problem after reintalling software, right ? Moreover that he deleted his account from W'xp leaving only admin.
Also just curiouse can I modify <Embedded security passwd> after reinstalling OS to make it really confidential or it's hard coded in chip and stay with laptop for good and all prev users will know it?
As I understand this is for real chip that embedded in Mobo.
I didn't see any option for this in BIOS, just enable/disable.
I'm sorry that I made forum not confortable about my prev post, that could made impression that my T42 smell not good. It's perfectly legal transaction, had just problem to locate old owner.
I also new to all these security features and try to do it with caution to avoid problems.
My T42 is 379-A1U and there is my corporate personal email address on forum profile.
Tx again

Does security chip need to be disabled before re-install OS?
Hi all,
I am about to reinstall my T42 from "Product recovery disc"s or from the service partition. (I have not done that before.) And I want to be sure that there are no hardware passwords.
carbon_unit suggested "remove all bios and Client security passwords" and I agree.
In CSS7 > Advanced Security > Audit, I see the following entries
power on password
hard drive password
administratory password
and these three are set to Disabled.
Is that all the passwords I should be concerned with?
Also CSS7 > Advanced Security > Audit shows that the "Embedded Security Chip" is set to Enabled. Should I disable it? What function does it serve if there are no hardware passwords?
Many thanks,
Owen
