T42 in Italy: some questions...

#1 Post by Cecilia76 » Thu Sep 02, 2004 1:36 am

Hallo everybody,

I would like to buy a T42 w/ 15'' Flexview here in Italy but I would like to ask the group some questions:

1. The model I like (UC2HSIT) is very expensive here, so I probably do better by buying a cheaper model (UC2JXIT) and the upgrading it LATER.
But the cheaper model has a 40 Gb HD and DOESN'T have the DVD burner. Dou you think I can buy them later and change the ones on board?

2. If I get dead pixel in my machine, do you think I can change it in the first 30 days as in the US?

3. Do you know anything about thai/china keyboards in that models? Will I have the thai one?

Thanks in advance, C. :D

The ITA keyb maybe is like the GER one, I guess.
I mean I don't want US keyb, with small Enter key, @ character near the 1 character and so on.
I mailed the shop, I will see.
I also have a plain XP Pro but if I do a plain install I will not be able to use IBM tools, like the Access button. Will I?
It's not a big trouble: I had plain to format the T42p but just curios to see the factory default. Your opinion appreciated on these.

I warn regular 'readers' in advance - you know this story.

Here goes: I bought my 2373-CWU from Bill in Florida (the guy who provides this forum) and I live in France. When I calculated A: The price in dollars, plus B: the shipping, plus C: the customs duty (VAT) I paid about 2400€ for a machine which would cost 4200€ here in France - and it's totally legal.

Work it out for yourself - I have the same international guarantee etc. all I changed was the keyboard (40€ shipped)

PM me if you need further info

It's usually much less expensive to get the computer configured as you want it from the manufacturer than to get a minimalist computer and then upgrade the parts. Firstly, manufacturers can get the parts much cheaper than you can; Secondly, you're not paying for all of those lower line parts that you will be replacing (and wondering what to do with after they are replaced).

IBM charges ALOT though. They wanted me to pay an extra ~400$ to upgrade to a 60gb 7200rpm drive...when the drive would cost me 200$, and probably 10 minutes to install, and for the extra drive, I could buy the ultrabay drive for $40 and use that instead of the cdrom (which I use rarely). I may still do that though.
