How to get bluetooth to work?

#1 Post by rabbarba » Sun Nov 26, 2006 11:39 am

Hi, My bluetooth doesn't work correct on my laptop. It's a T43. I've installed the drivers from lenovo's site, and when i activate the bluetooth and try to search for devices with my phone it doesn't find the laptop. Do i need some bluetooth software or something like that? What shall i do?

Do you have only the IBM WIDCOMM BT drivers installed or are the default Microsoft ones being used as well?

I've tried FN+F5..

The default microsoft drivers.. I don't know. I downloaded the big bluetooth package from IBM's site, for t43. The one that was 72mb, or something. That is installed. But still doesn't work. I found this other bluetooth thing from the IBM site, 300kb or something. There was only 2 files in the drivers folder when i had done the first "extraction". Couldn't find any way to install that.

YOu might want to remove the ones you have now and then reinstall them; I would recommend that you uninstall it, then reinstall it again and see what happens.

This topic has been solved in another posts.

Well, the solution:

1) Go to C:\Windows\inf and rename (or remove) the microsoft's driver: bth.inf (you can try renaming to whatever bth.inf.xxx).

2) Install (or reinstall) your IBM's drivers.

This issue become from Windows trying to install microsoft drivers instead of IBM (windcomm) drivers.

Enjoy.

Yeah, the thing is, Microsoft's drivers sometimes find the "new hardware" and initiate their install before the IBM drivers get the chance. :)

Try finding bth.inf in the windows' root folder.

English and Spanish work as C:\Windows\Inf

I only get my bluetooth to work with Microsoft drivers. When I install IBM drivers none of them work.

I had a similar problem... uninstalled the old IBM bluetooth, reinstalled the latest IBM bluetooth package, and Windows went haywire looking for BT drivers. I eventually pointed windows at the unpacked IBM BT package and it found the drivers OK.

However, now I'm not sure if I'm operating using the WIndows drivers or the IBM drivers. I suspect Windows, since I cannot see any IBM-related BT software or configuration options, just the normal windows one.

I'd like to give the IBM drivers a try because windows has the infuriating habit of loosing connection with my BT mouse about every 10 minutes, requiring me to power cycle the mouse to reconnect.

The "INF" directory is always marked "hidden" in the Windows folder. If you are using the built-in Windows file management tools with default settings, hidden folders and files will be, well, hidden. :)

So in order to see them, open up My Computer, go up to the Tools Menu, select Folder Options, click on the "View" tab, and check "show hidden files and folders".
