No sound after motherboard upgrade

I recently upgraded the motherboard in my T40 to a T41p motherboard. I got the new board off of ebay used (no damage mentioned) however the sound does not work at all. Even the BIOS startup beep and AC connect/disconnect beeps cannot be heard. Volume is turned up and the relevant stuff seems to be enabled in the BIOS. The OS sees the sound chip, the driver loads, and it acts like it is playing sound but nothing is audible. Neither the builtin speakers nor the headphone jack play any sound.

Has anyone ever had a similar problem?
